About Bluff Lodge

While it’s immediately obvious that Bluff Lodge is a gracious home, it’s also much more than that.  Bluff Lodge is an integral part of Hobart’s history, particularly the river-side Bellerive area.

The home was originally a gentleman’s residence, built for JR Watson Esquire on 25 July 1889.
It was designed by popular colonial architect, Hedley Westbrook, who also designed several major public buildings in the Bellerive Village, including the original Bellerive Post Office, now home to the local genealogical society and a sound museum; and the former Bellerive Police Station reinvented in more recent years as the Bellerive Community Arts Centre.

About Your Hosts

Chris and Keryn Goodman have spent 15 years restoring Bluff Lodge, in a labour of love that initially transformed it into a warm and welcoming family home but in recent times has seen the couple continue their restoration program to open it as a B & B.

Chris is a retired mechanical engineer with a passion for model steam trains and aeroplanes.  When’s not being a host at Bluff Lodge, he loves to head off on the family cruiser for fishing in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, which has some of Australia’s best and most sheltered waterways.

Keryn has worked in the tourism industry for almost 20 years and has travelled widely, so she knows only too well that it’s the unexpected extras that really make a holiday.  She has a personal commitment to good service and to ensuring that visitors to Tasmania are well informed so that they get the holiday that meets their expectations and needs.

A dog-lover who is especially smitten with Labradors, she has also been directly involved in the restoration of Bluff Lodge, including the refurbishment of its antique Tasmanian timber furniture.

Rekindle your appreciation for the satisfying, simple pleasures in life-peacefull moments, a friendly community, new perspectives and rejuvenation that lasts long after you return home.

Barnbougle Dunes golf course, located on the edge of the town of Bridport on the northeast coast, is a course for purists by purists.  To play Barnbougle Dunes is to step back in time: The green fees are a bargain at $A80.00 and there are no golf carts - and nor should there be.  The layout is a mix of voluptuous dunes, sandy waste and rough typical of a links course; it is a site destined to be one of the world’s great golf courses. The same blend of fescue grass extends from tee to green, and there is dramatic movement in its bumpy fairways and rolling greens.  At 6,124 metres, this par-71 design does not require brute strength, yet there are places to exert power to an advantage. This is more a course of strategy and plotting a suitable path according to your ability. Indeed, it's difficult to imagine a player of any handicap not enjoying the Barnbougle Dunes experience.
