Port Arthur Cottage Rental near Tasmania Golf Club, Australia

Accommodation

Self contained and fully equipped, the cottage sleeps up to four people. There is a double bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom and a cosy log fire.

Overlooking the historic Long Bay shoreline the cottage is only metres from the water in a peaceful bushland setting. Nearby are state forests and Fortescue Bay National Park, the highest sea cliffs in Australia and the three Capes, Raoul, Pillar and Huay. The cottage is within easy access to pristine beaches, a penguin colony and walking tracks and a few minutes from Port Arthur Historic Site, restaurants and shops, the Taranna Devil Park and Federation Chocolate Factory.

When staying at the cottage you can walk through Denis and Andre gardens. Since arriving in Oakwood Denis has replaced by native Tasmanian bush food plants the blackberries that had taken over the slopes on the way to the water.

Plant Nursery

The entrance to the garden is free and plants are labelled with their bush food usage.
The nursery is open 7 days a week. (Just check during school holidays as Denis and Andre usually goes away). The nursery stock natives and exotics.  3 young Wollomai pines can be viewed with Native peppers, native hemp, Huon pines, creeping strawberry pines, and so many more 10 metres from high tide.

Putt Putt Golf

Denis has designed a mini golf that he called a Bush Putt as it’s in the Bush (2 hours to complete).

The design of the golf is against common sense all the way; tunnels, holes were you expect them the least, balls going through bath, hand basin, canoe, a canon, wenches, frying pans, bridge, craypots, and more a real experience. A table and wood barbecue are available. Adult are charged same price as kids.

Internet access - Internet access is $3.00 per 15 minutes, $5.50 per 30 minutes.

Tasmania Golf Club
Tasmania Golf Club is a spectacular course with panoramic water views and challenging holes. Undulating tree-lined fairways and excellent greens provide an exciting test for the serious golfer. The course is located at Barilla Bay and all facilities at Tasmania are first class.  The signature hole is the 3rd, a par five which is well known and admired by golfers of all abilities. The par three 11th is also interesting having an elevated tee to a very large green. It should be straightforward but the wind can have a big influence, making this hole extremely difficult at times.

Tasman Golf Club
Located just 4 kms from the historic Port Arthur site, this 9 hole golf course is a gem, it's a challenging experience, with breathtaking coastal scenery. It is an interesting course with a dramatic signature hole; the 8th, a par three where you tee off on a cliff top and drive the ball over a 200 metre drop to the ocean, hopefully landing on the green on the cliff on the other side.

Royal Hobart Golf Club
The course, some 6115 metres in length and par 72, stretches across flat terrain and is constructed on sandy soils, thus allowing play in all weather conditions.  Rated in Australia’s Top Twenty Courses, the ample fairways dogleg through tall, old groves of gums, pines, cypresses and acacias. Thick wide branches reach into the fairways and turn the many sharp doglegs into a true championship challenge. The greens are true and fast all year long and are heavily protected by the many bunkers that abound on the course.
