Lower House Bed and Breakfast and Art School in Callingnton, Cornwall

Lower House is a fine Georgian family home situated in the centre of the small town of Callington in the Tamar Valley, recently designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and just 3 miles from the St Mellion Golf Club. We have been awarded a 4 star rating by Visit Britain.

We also run residential art courses in the house and adjoining stone coach house with a wide range of courses for all abilities.

Close by are Lanhydrock Golf Club, Launceston Golf Club, China Fleet Golf and Country Club, Whitsand Bay Hotel and Country Club, Carlyon Bay Hotel and Golf Club, Looe Golf Club, Trethorne Golf Club, Lostwithiel Golf and Country Club and Hurdwick Golf Club in Tavistock.

This part of the county has much to offer at all times of the year. We are close to Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor as well as the south coast, where we regularly draw and paint. There are numerous gardens and National Trust properties to visit with some excellent restaurants close by. ‘Langmans’ is l00m away!

Lower House has an interesting history. Built in 1722 it was owned by the Coryton family until 1856 when it bought by the Dingle family. William Dingle was quite a character in the area and was still living in Lower House when his grand daughter Eva (mother of Michael Foot MP) married Isaac Foot in 1904. We have photos of them on their wedding day in the garden.

ACCOMMODATION:
We offer comfortable accommodation in four rooms, all en suite, two are spacious family rooms, one a double that can also be a twin room and one a single. All our rooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard and have original art works on the walls. Our bed quilts are made especially for us in Vietnam in workshops for the disabled. All rooms have radiators with individual thermostats, colour TV and a selection of Fairtrade teas and coffee.

We are pleased to offer a smoke-free environment in all our rooms.

Meals can be taken in our dining room but in the summer we frequently BBQ in the garden. Breakfast is made from local produce as far as is possible and made to your order. You can choose between a selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt, homemade bread and jams, but I recommend Peter's cooked breakfasts. We can also offer an evening meal if required which can be pre-ordered. Prices start from £12.50 for a two course meal.

B&B prices: £25 pppn based on two people sharing and £30 for a single occupancy. We charge £15 a night for children. We are pleased to discuss discounted rates for groups, families or for longer stays. We accept all leading credit cards.
